Who is Mike Dooley?

You will probably recognise Mike Dooley as one of the Secret Teachers in the breathtaking documentary The Secret.

Mike Dooley is not simply a career teacher or speaker but likes to be regarded as a multi-faceted ‘life adventurer’, having successfully circumnavigated both the corporate and entrepreneurial arenas.

His story is remarkable how he started his own company in 1989 co-founding Totally Unique Thoughts to retail unique and wondrous, inspiring gifts after leaving PriceWaterhouseCooper. The growth of the company has been astounding with distribution centers all over the US and all over the world.

Mike’s Totally Unique T-shirts sales have been recorded at over 1,000,000. In 2000 the company was transformed into a web-based inspirational and philosophical Adventurers Club- (TUT). The adventurers club has over 60,000 members spanning over 169 countries.

Mike also happens to be a talented author with a series of books called Notes from the Universe and a highly successful audio program called Infinite Possibilities: The Art of Living your Dreams.

Mike desribes his rise to the top as unintentional and unfathomable, but nevertheless it’s some adventure:

Welcome to TUT’s Great Adventure!

It’s amazing to me that we (TUT) began in 1989 selling T-shirts to tourists. Never in a million years could Andy, Mom and I have guessed that our efforts would grow into a company whose main focus would be reaching out and serving as a “reminder service” of life’s infinite grace and perfection.

We were just looking to find our own place in the shade by selling a line that we dreamed would reach the “big time”.

We did real well financially, sold over a million T-shirts, though we never came close to the grandest visions we harbored. Yet amazingly, without noticing what was really happening, the core of what we were doing evolved over 10 years into something entirely different than what we had set out to do - something even better than we knew we could wish for - using our thoughts and creativity to touch people, and to remind us all of life’s everyday magic.

These days, whenever someone asks, “how did you get to be doing what you’re now doing?” I’m almost embarrassed to admit that it was so “accidental” - particularly given the fact that many of our “Totally Unique Thoughts” emphasize focusing on the “end result” and dream attainment! But by looking closely at our successes and the trail we’ve tread, there really isn’t any contradiction.

The end result we really sought wasn’t material at all, nor did it relate to the selling of our line or even T-shirts; the end result had always been our own happiness and fulfillment; the creative use of our talents and abilities in a fun and useful manner; enjoying the journey; enjoying people; and enjoying ourselves.

For us, the most inspiring part of our story was discovering that by setting yourself into motion, toward the realization of ANY dream, you also set into motion the entire “Universe” and all its wisdom, which will then, and only then, conspire tirelessly on your behalf (even taking you “off course” if need be) to avail you of treasures and rewards beyond your greatest expectations.
