What The Secret Knockers Don’t Want You To Know

By Cathy Lane | March 21, 2007

It’s no secret that The Secret has its knockers; there’s people out there who simply do not believe in the Law of Attraction. Did you know that many of the most prominent ‘Law of Attraction Bashers’ (we’ll call them) have their own secret to hide?

Whilst surfing around on a few forums and blogs I came across an exciting blog that explains why rival marketing gurus are challenging the teachings of The Secret and doubting the Law of Attraction.

The Secret Doubters’ Mentality

“If I can’t ride the success of the secret by teaching the secret- I’ll ride the wave of the secret by saying it doesn’t exist!”

Check out this exciting post and let the knockers be exposed:

What Self Help Gurus Who Challenge The Secret Don’t Want You to Know

Persuasion and marketing experts Dave Lakhani, Kevin Hogan and Blair Warren are hosting a teleseminar titled “The Secret The Truth Behind the Lie”

These gentlemen are arguing that the law of attraction teachings are harmful and just pop psychology.  And they are out to put a stop to these sales people!

“All the experts agree that The Secret is one of the best orchestrated marketing plans organized and implemented in recent history. But that should come as no surprise either, most of the experts in the movie are expert marketers. It is doubtful if this movie would have achieved the level of success it did without the support of marketers and without employing The Ziegarnik effect in their efforts to seduce the public.” - Dave Lakhani

I agree that “The Secret” is one of the most brilliantly done marketing campaigns in years.  However Rhonda Byrne and her team aren’t the only clever marketers out there.

Blair Warren, Kevin Hogan, and Dave Lakhani are no dummies- THEY ARE MARKETING AND PERSUASION EXPERTS! They really don’t see the secret as a problem (they probably don’t really care) they see it as an opportunity to market themselves as well!

If they agreed with the law of attraction nobody would care!

Imagine the headlines now “three persuasion experts all agree with “the secret” they say go watch it and get rich” Or “Three persuasion experts expose the lie of the secret live this Wednesday”

One is a little more enticing.

Kevin Hogan Example

Let’s take Kevin Hogan for example- nice guy I have some of his products.  He is a business owner in the self help/ success/ persuasion psychology field.  Kevin is someone who teaches people to be successful.  Gee whiz, looks like Kevin even has a product or two on manifestation:  Manifesting the Millionaire Mind.

Now on day Kevin turned on the TV or went online or to borders book store and heard that this “DVD” called the secret is sweeping the nation, and its at the top of all the best seller lists.  Millions of people are either learning about the secret of the law of attraction for the first time or they are people who had an idea of positive thinking who now have rekindled their fire for creating the life they deserve.

Now this being Kevin’s market- the self help/ success market- he has a couple of options.

Options

A.    He can learn to teach the law of attraction too even though he hasn’t for the many years he has been in business.

B.    He can do nothing and watch a bunch of “law of attractioners” he calls em, go to learn from his competition.

C.    He can tell everyone that “The Secret” and the law of attraction is bogus- even dangerous, and you should learn from him how to be successful instead.

Well, teaching the law of attraction is out of the question for Kevin. He’s a persuasion expert he should stay with what he knows the market is saturated with law of attraction coaches and philosophers as it is.  And naturally he can’t do B.; ignoring this 250 million pound elephant in the corner, while all the other self help gurus get all the kudos.

Kevin is a genius though so he chooses C.

Why is Kevin a genius?

It is more profitable for him and his persuasion chums to discredit the law of attraction whether it is true or not!

1.    “Holy cow” Kevin says “The self help/ success market just quadrupled in size- there will be a ton of new customers for me to market to”.  There will be people who can’t master “The Secret” and are still looking for teachers to help them manifest their way to success.  There will be people who are passionate about success and want to learn from as many teachers and philosophers as possible.  There will be of course and a bit in my opinion unfortunately “self help junkies” who go from book to book seminar to seminar still trying to find “The Secret”

2.
I’ll never get on Larry King to talk about my products by saying I agree with “The Secret” but I might be able to by saying “The Secret” and the law of attraction is a big fat lie” If I can’t ride the success of the secret by teaching the secret- I’ll ride the wave of the secret by saying it doesn’t exist!”

Marketing is like a chess game every move, as simple as it may seem, has a hidden agenda.

Kevin Hogan, Dave Lakhani, and Blair Warren are smarter than they look. The success of “The Secret” is the greatest thing that happened to the self help industry.  No matter which side you are on. These skilled psychologists know Mastery of any personal development program, law of attraction teachings or not, take time and discipline.

Furthermore they know there will be many people who give up on the process of the law of attraction and don’t take the time it takes to see results.  And after those people throw in the towel Kevin Hogan, Dave Lakhani and Blair Warren will be strategically positioning their bishops and knights to sell their products.  Checkmate.

I just wrote about these bozo’s using The Secret to make their own profits - using negativity and controversy to draw attention to their otherwise unmarketable books and products.

I’m going to go edit my post and link up to this brilliant post!

What is so ironic is the “bashers” are still using the Law of Attraction … even if they deny it.

It is clear to any thinking and rational person who has come to know The Secret, they can look back over their life and see the effects.

Those who feel they can only succeed by tearing down and bashing anothers success, will have to settle for results based on the smallest of those they attack.

It is interesting that you never consider the thought that we really DO believe that this kind of information is not helpful.

    Which really IS the truth.

We are focused on helping people not be manipulated, hurt because they didn’t “attract well enough” or because they believe that they attracted something terrible to themselves.

Listen to the replay of the call yourself. Make an informed decision before you assume that increasing our visibility was the intent.

There are many better ways of doing it than taking on something that was made by many of our friends.

    Dear Cathy:

I think your comments were very well stated. NO ONE can deny that the marketing of “The Secret” was pure, pure genius. But, because we live in America it is almost expected that there would be a counter-marketing effort. After all, where the “Secret” fell short in my opinion is that as we all now know, the “Secret” really isn’t a secret. You said it very well when you stated that for many it “rekindled” a fire for something they aleady knew. That gap provides an opportune moment for others to come in and rightflly promote their own stuff.

What disturbs me more is that there are now SO many progams coming out of the woodwork — most using the word “Secret,” that it is going to be a challenge to sort through what really merits reading or viewing or listening. If one of the keys to the “Secret” is to take inspired action to accomplish your goals, then that is going to be tough if you have an MP3 player plugged into your ear 24/7, listening to audio that promises to reveal even more “secrets.” You’ll get nothing done listening to “secret after secret after secret.”

I think pretty soon we are going to be on information overload and the public will see through it. Finally, I think the “Science of Getting Rich Seminar (for $2000) is taking the viral marketing thing too far. There can’t be $2000 worth of information in that briefcase particularly in light of the fact that all the “Secret” information is a rehash of other people’s work or things or information you can easily find elsewhere.

The book that people also should be reading, in my opinion is “The Divine Matrix” by Greg Braden which REALLY describes the connectivity of it all.

You may want to visit: http://www.thelawofattractionfor christians for still another perspective on “The Secret.”

    Sincerely,

What I find most ironic is that all in our world is about creation and so much time is spent separating what is or isn’t spiritual when in fact all is spiritual. Business is no more spiritual than reading a spiritual passage in a book. The universe operates under spiritual laws and law of attraction is one of them. Law of attraction is getting so much attention when in fact this powerful law is just answering people’s prayers or what they focus or think about all day long. If you think positive thoughts law of attraction will bring that to you and if you focus on negative thoughts well that’s what you’ll get.It is a benevolent law acting upon a principle just like physics or chemistry.

It really isn’t that complicated when one takes responsibility for their own thoughts. It is not a secret that any thought accompanied with intense joy or fear will eventually be manifested. However, you have the power to change your mind at any moment by choosing to focus on the goodness in the land of the living rather than the negativity. So whether the secret gets marketed or copied or not is irrelevant when you know that there is only one power in the universe that lives within you that knows all and sees all. It will love you, guide you and protect you from anything that isn’t right for you. There’s no need to fear anything as our world must change and new ideas and concepts brought about. Life is about growth and moving forward never backwards. The intelligence that created it all will ensure that goodness is preserved, as it knows nothing else. The real secret is that there is no free ride and you must do the inner work if you want to change your life. No one can do it for you. All spiritual teachers can do is make you aware and you must take charge of your life and seek your answers. Until you trust the incredible power within you, you won’t see the Promised Land. The answers to all the “secrets” are within you and everyone else on the planet. But only you know the answers to the secrets that are keeping you from the success, love, health and wealth you seek. No one can unravel that for you. Only you can!
